DAY 2 - Hamburg on foot for 10 hours

On Monday we went back to the art museum with the intention of going inside this time, but it was closed. So this is a picture of the outside of it.

Instead of museums, we visited a huge park called Planten un Blomen, where we met this awesome waterfowl with huge feet. We didn't know what they were, so we named them "Fussgans" (a combination of the German words for 'foot' and 'goose').

Planten un Blomen was filled with lots of sweet plants.

German squirrels are red, which is cooler than our grey ones. Maggie painted one while we were sitting on a park bench.

These were part of the carnivorous plant display in the botanical gardens.

Planten un Blomen was also filled with tons of ponds and cool flowers.

This is Christ Church. It was tall, so Kev Sigman respects it.

At this point in the day we'd already been walking for about 5 hours, so we took a break in front of a store called Der Stuhl. Oddly enough, they sold stools.

While we were resting, Maggie painted another picture. This time of the wonderful Fussgans (which, we later learned, are actually called "Eurasian Coots").

After more hours of wandering, we returned to Planten un Blomen to kill time on comfortable benches before dinner. Maggie drew more stuff - this time it was a drawing of "Pfefferspritzen", which was what we decided MUST be the German word for pepper spray (we told you it would come up again!).

Ducks came for food, but they stayed for the company.

After a delicious dinner with our friend Michael, we started walking home. On the way past the park, two kittens emerged from the bushes and decided we owned them. They followed us across half of Hamburg before finally giving up. We really wanted to keep them and named them Planten and Blomen in honor of the park.

Hamburg from across a lake after fleeing the adorable kittens.
