Days 5 & 6: Being generally damp

With all the other photos of places at which we ate, I should also mention flatkökur. It was a cheap and delicious bread and was our usual breakfast food.

We started Day 5 with a whale watching excursion on a boat called Hafsúlan. We walked past this whale skeleton on the way.

As we sailed out into the North Atlantic, it was predictably gray and raining.

Oh, and ridiculously cold.

Maggie looking off the front of the boat for whales.

Eventually we did find a couple. You are impressed by the outstanding photograph I got of this Minke whale.

Pictures of birds are much easier when they aren't being elusive underwater jerks like whales.

Headed back to the harbor, Hallgrímskirkja was very visible over all the short buildings in the city.

For dinner, we grabbed takeout from Sushismiðjan (Sushismith). The soy sauce came in adorable plastic fish.

We took an evening walk to see if we could go up to the top of Hallgrímskirkja, but it was closed. The statue in front is Leif Eriksson.

As you can see from the church pictures, it started raining MUCH harder on us during this walk. Our soaked clothes spent the night drenched on the heater to dry off.

On day six, we woke up and walked an entire half block to the Laundromat Cafe for brunch. My French Toast was preposterously thick.

We headed back to Hallgrímskirkja one more time, and it was now open.

I took this picture of the stairs to illustrate how we traveled all the way to the very top of the tall church tower, but it's really not at all impressive. We took an elevator and only had to walk those few short sections you see here.

A couple shots of the city and harbor from high up in the church tower.

After an afternoon nap, our next destination was the Jakaból gym, which is run by my old strongman pal Magnús Ver Magnússon.

Magnús showed us around and we chatted for a bit in his impressive trophy room before taking this goofy picture in the mirror.

While walking back to the apartment we saw this ad that seemed to be based on our own kitchen. We have that mixer, knife holder, and man-spatula.

Another vegetarian place was our choice for dinner where we got even more delicious Indian food.
