About

I started trying to write reviews of all kinds of entertainment, but sort of forgot to keep up with any of it except for my annual, in-depth reviews of all the areas haunted house attractions at Halloween. So enjoy these!

Quickie Reviews
The Haunted Mill in Clinton, NJ2013-10-26
Only having one night to get out to a haunt over the last two Halloween season since our daughter was born, we headed back to the Haunted Mill in Clinton, which had been one of our recent favorites after first going there four years prior. Unfortunately, we didn't like it nearly as much this time around - the props and actors felt somewhat less inspired, and a couple of the haunters actually smelled a little drunk (which seemed quite inappropriate). Overall, still decent compared to most attractions, but didn't nearly live up to its own standard from our prior visit.
Fright Fest at Six Flags Great Adventure2008-10-17
Though there were some decent decorations and very sparse haunters here and there throughout the park, there was only one legit haunt walkthrough. It was The Demented Forest Terror Trail, which cost an extra $5 per person on top of the already exorbitant Six Flags entry fees. Costumes and props in the Terror Trail were great, but absolutely don't go to Six Flags just for the Fright Fest stuff or you'll blow a ton of money for not a lot of Halloweenery.
Fright Factory in Philadelphia, PA2007-09-29
This is one of the few places that I've intentionally sought out in consecutive years just because it was so awesome. This year was no exception. I am still so impressed at how committed the actors are - some of them were not afraid to scream themselves hoarse and just run out of control into walls and so forth. The makeup, costumes, and set designs are completely top notch and the walkthrough is lenghty. This is probably the best haunt I've been to in the area.
The Haunted Meadows in Hellertown, PA2006-10-31
My 7th and final haunted house visit for 2006 was at a small attraction near my parents' house. I went after dinner with my mom and dad, and for $10 each we enjoyed a 10-minute walk through some dark woods and some misty, strobe-lit corridors in a building. For a small operation, the props and lighting were great, but they could really do without the 12 year old tour guide. A haunt really loses its sense of urgency and suspense when you're slowly accompanied by a little kid.
HalloweenFest 2006 by Hamilton Hauntings2006-10-15
Just like last year, it was still 4 attractions for $16. However, this year had a hayride - a very slow moving event that caused humongous lines and wait times throughout the whole place. The quality was also significantly decreased from last year's HalloweenFest, so it was largely a disappointment. It did, however, have a spinning disorientation tube, which is always worth at least a few bucks.
Festival of Fears in Morrisville, PA2006-10-13
Festival of Fears was a fun, little Haunted House for just $8. Nothing too elaborate and the walk lasted less than 10 minutes, but it was a cheap and entertainingly pleasant surprise on a small, kid-friendly mom and pop farm in Pennsylvania!
Shady Brook Farms' HorrorFest2005-10-09
Pretty much the same as last year, but this time we got to do the Alien Invasion part. Fortunately, this featured the spinning tube of disorientation (as seen here and here) so that was sweet. Hayrides after a rainstorm make for less enjoyment and more wet ass. Eww.
