House of Horrors in East Brunswick, NJ

Normally, we get started on our haunt trips in September each year. But since we were on vacation last month and the last weekend of the month was quite rainy, we had to wait until October to get out and see some Halloween attractions. But we are making up for it by kicking things off with two trips in the same night. After seeing Field of Terrors, we headed North to East Brunswick to see a $3 haunted house run by the local 4-H.

This was a small walkthrough that was set up as a mental asylum. It began with us being seated and being shown a 90 second introductory video. It was homemade at best, and the production value was hilariously cheesy. The asylum was populated almost exclusively by teenage girls, and we were truly impressed with their level of commitment. I am not sure I can properly convey just how much screaming we heard while walking through this thing. It was literally five straight minutes of non-stop, out-of-control shrieking from people on all sides of us. That might sound unpleasant, but it was actually kind of awesome and impressive.

Though it was quite small and only lasted a few minutes, it was definitely worth three bucks (that's what she said). Two highlights come to mind. First, there was a window into a room where a young male patient was violent flinging chairs and a table around and was furiously smashing things. We were jealous of how fun his job looked, even if he probably bruises himself a lot every night. And second, there were two operating tables set up with girls who appeared to be ripped in half. The "doctor" at one table was inexplicably just beating the girl's intestines with a bone over and over again. It made absolutely no sense, and was fantastically entertaining.

In conclusion, SCREAMING. Seriously, it's worth 3 dollars just to go and understand how much screaming we're talking about. Because it was a lot. A lot of screaming.
